Yellow Submarine! Just on top of the Water...

Seems it was pretty much a month since I posted anything here and the funny thing is, it is, this time, not because I didn't manage to actually paint anything at all, but simply because in my new and chaotic timbetable and frantic work schedule I simply had no chance to scavenge myself some free and spare time to even /photo/ the goddamn miniatures! To add salt to this injury my premiere photocamera got busted and so now I had to take all this low quality photos with a mediocre run-of-the-mill digital monkey of a camera. So, yeah, sorry for the low quality of the pictures. But alas, let's start with a first cruiser for the Empire of the Blazing Sun! I am quite happy for how it turned out to be honest, since I had my own doubts about how the yellow and dark grey scheme will work, but ultimately it turned out much better than I expected and I will definitely keep it, same with the simple numerical marking on the hull and using the color of the prow as a squad indicator. So, here it is, first of the three!

Wygląda na to, że niemalże miesiąc minął odkąd udało mi się zapuścić tutaj jakiegokolwiek posta, a by było zabawniej, tym razem nie wynikało to z tego, że nic nie malowałem, ale raczej z tego, że nadal jestem w trakcie ostrego układania sobie nowej tabelki zarządzania czasem, a mój wymagajacy czasowo profil pracy dodatkowo nie ułatwia mi prób odzyskania odrobiny wolnego czasu chociażby po to, by pstryknąć moim pamperkom jakieś foteczki. By posolić ranę, mój profesjonalny aparat padł jak strucla i teraz fotki musiałem cyknąć prawdziwą cyfrową małpką, która jakościowo pozostawia wiele do życzenia - ów żółcie ie są takie płaskie, wierzcie mi, jest na nich dość mocne przejście z jasnego pomarańczu do bladej, wytartej żółci (Pierwsza fotka jako tako to obrazuje). Ogólnie jestem zadowolony, jako że miałem wątpliwości co do tego, czy ciemna szarość z jaskrawą żółcią wyjdzie dobrze, kiedy inne kolory stanowią zaledwie detal na okręcie, ale efekt jest całkiem w porządku i mam zamiar kontynuować takie malowanie, używając określonej numeracji na burtach oraz koloru dziobu jako oznacznika szwadronu.

Philosophers of the Frozen South - Plato and Ptolomy!

So, yeah, it seems I really don't get lazy lately and paint whenever I can. It's of vital importance to me as last thing I want to see now is me getting all lazy with the painting once again. Nevermore! So, to continue my adventure with Covenant of Antarctica and their starter fleet I gave little frigates a bit of a break and got into slightly bigger model, one of the three Plato Class Cruisers, simply to have some more fun and to decide for the color of the "wooden" deck, one, that would both be suiting yet contrasting - I am quite happy for how it worked out and the bridge with varying colors of abused steel is what I am happy for as well.

Tak, więc jak widać nie mam zamiaru poddawać się lenistwu i maluję, kiedy tylko mogę. Kluczowym dla mnie jest teraz nie poddawać się ponownie i odpuścić malowaniu po raz ponowny. Nigdy więcej! Kontynuuję więc swoją malarską przygodę z Przymierzem Antarktydy i starterem do tejże, dając chwilę wytchnienia malutkim fregatorm i zabierając się za nieco większy model pod postacią krążownika klasy Platon, po prostu po to, by mieć trochę zróżnicowanego ubawu jak i zdecydować się na kolor "drewnianego" pokładu, tak, by był zarówno gładko pasujący jak i elegancko kontrastowy - Jestem całkiem zadowolony z efektu, tak samo jak z mostka w różnych odcieniach zmęczonego metalu.

Ptolomy Class Bomber - 49% done - what I mean here, it's that this underside is /almost/ done at the topside is still awaiting a single touch of the brush. Yes, this is it's underside (*And surprisingly, it is an airplane!*) and so I decided to paint it mainly in dirty blue with the black and yellow 'safety strips' on the landing gear. I still need to glaze the metallic parts with some light purple and paint nice, crisp and clean lines that will seperate the armour plates from the metallic component of the ship visually. The topside will be either white or I will keep the turqouis basic color of the army... I am still pondering if the airforce of my army should have it's own distinctive color schem or should fit with the rest of the forces. All in all,painting this bit took much more time than I expected!

Ptolomy Class Bomber - 49% ukończenia - znaczy się, jedna strona /prawie/ gotowa a druga czekająca na malowanie. To jest /spód/ samolotu (*tak, to jest samolot*) i dlatego pomalowałem go na brudny błękit wraz z 'pasami bezpieczeństwa' na płozach do lądowania. Nadal muszę pociągnąć metaliki lekko fioletowym łaszem no i pomalować ładne, równe krawędzie oddzielające metal od reszty konstrukcji. Druga połówka będzie albo biała albo zachowam turkusowy odcień armii... Się jeszcze zastanawiam, czy lotnictwo powinno mieć własne kolory czy cała armia powinna być zunifikowana jednym głównym kolorem. Tak czy siak skurczybyk zajął sporo więcej czasu już, niż się spodziewałem!

1st Diogenes Class Frigates Squadron

Yesterday was a day sponsored by success! Not only I manage to find a perfect way for me to focus on painting and break my long ongoing 'forever WIP' streak once and for all but also managed to do so by finishing a whole squadron of little frigates for Dystopian Wars. This little cuties are really small and rich with details, but they turned out to be very fun to work with and to paint - also they helped me define the color scheme for my Covenant of Antarctica naval army and find a solid system for marking them by applying a roman numeral on the tail. I think the system works and the scheme is solid as well. Now time to move onto a bigger model...

Wczorajszy dzień sponsorował sukces! Nie tylko odnalazłem perfekcyjny sposób na skupienie się na malowaniu i nareszcie ostatecznie zerwałem ze swoim tytułem 'wiecznego WIP'a' a wszystko dzięki ukończeniu malowania całego szwadronu małych fregat do systemu Dystopian Wars. The małe słodziaki są, cóż, naprawdę małe a zarazem bogate w detale - mimo to okazały się naprawdę przyjemne w malowaniu - nie mówiąc już o tym, że pomogły mi w ostatecznym zdefiniowaniu schematu dla Przymierza Antarktyki i jej morskiej floty a na dodatek stworzyć łatwy i klarowny system oznaczania poszczególnych modeli na pomocą prostej aplikacji rzymskiego numeru na ogonie rufowym. Sądzę, że zarówno mój system jak i schemat kolorystyczny działa jak trzeba. A teraz czas na jakiś większy model...

1/9 Empire of the Blazing Sun Frigate

No, to szybciutki wpis na wieczór - jedna z dziewięciu fregat Imperium Wschodzącego Słońca dostępnych  w starterze. Bardzo szybkie malowanie, praktycznie Speedpainting, bo od początku do końca zajęło 30 minut. Tak, efekt nie jest na konkursy modelarskie, ale to naprawdę mały model, i na żywo wygląda znośnie - przy patrzeniu na cały szwadron, będzie idealnie, a bardziej zależy mi na dobrym tempie pomalowania tego, niż na jakiejś topowej jakości...

So, a quick little post for the evening - one of the nine Empire of the Blazing Sun avaliable in the starter box. This paintjob was extremely quick, practically a Speedpaint, because painting this from the very top took a total od 30 minutes. Sure, the effect is hardly enough to start in painting competitions, but it look good enough in reality mostly due to it's tiny size - when whole squadron will look like that, it will be ideal, considering I care more to paint it quick than to keep some outstanding quality.

Graug, Captain of Tassar Brawlers

I w ten oto sposób ukończyłem już trzecią figurkę w tym roku! Wow, takie tempo, uszanowanko – jak tak dalej pójdzie, to może  w przyszłym roku uda mi się pomalować ich /aż całe pięć/? Nie ma jednak co szaleć i spokojnie starać się utrzymać tempo… Jak zwykle jest to kwestia motywacji. Teraz zacząłem prowadzić quasi-regularne prezentacje systemu Dystopian Wars i walczę o „posadę” Vanguarda  u Spartan Games, a to oznacza konieczność pomalowania przynajmniej dwóch starterów do ich gier… Zanim jednak do tego przejdziemy, muszę się pochwalić ukończonym modelem do Dreadballa, pierwszym z dwudziestu – a jest to Orx Guard, duży, zielony i brzydki!

Z przykrością informuję, że zła sława modeli Mantica jest w dużej mierze słuszna – nie jest tak, że modele są tragiczne, ale plastik jest twardy, niesympatyczny w obróbce a same odlewy są jakby wytarte z detali i pokryte od góry do dołu nadlewkami i liniami podziału, które często przechodzą przez miniaturowe detale modelu – ponieważ Dreadball to gra planszowa bardziej niż system figurkowy, to uznałem, że nie chce mi się jakoś specjalnie pieprzyć z tym i wyciąłem tylko największe nadlewki i celowałem w poziom TT. Tak oto powstał Graug, kapitan drużyny Tassar Brawlers!

Czerwień i kremowa biel to kolory korporacji, która sponsoruje drużynę tych zielonoskórych brutali, i postanowiłem zaaplikować ten schemat na pancerzu tak, by rzeczywiście wyglądało to nie jako zbroja bojowa, lecz jako pancerny kostium sportowca, więc mamy podział kolorystyczny na strefy, numer zawodnika na plecach w odpowiednim miejscu i jedyne, czego mi brakuje, to wymyślenie logo korporacji, by zrobić odpowiednie kalkomanie (*mam zamiar poeksperymentować z drukowaniem własnych*).

And so here I managed to finish a third miniature this year! Wow, such speed, greetings – if I keep it up, maybe I will manage to paint to a finish a grand total of /five/ miniatures next year? There is no reason to go crazy though and try to calmly keep the current tempo… As usual, it is just a case of proper motivation. Now I began to cycle of quasi-regular presentation and intros to Dystopian Wars and I ‘fight’ for the seat of Spartan Games Vanguard, and that means I am required to paint two starters for their games at the very least… Before I will get to that though, I will now take a moment to showcase a fist out of twenty miniatures for my set of Dreadball – a big, green and ugly Orx Guard!

I regret to inform that the infamy stuck to the Mantic models looks to be verified – it’s not that the models are tragic, but plastic they are made of is hard and hard to work with, the sculpts looks like they got heavily wear off on the details, riddled with mold lines that more often than not cross through little details, making it hard to clean them properly without damaging the look  - since Dreadball is more a boardgame than a miniature game system, I decided, that I don’t really want to screw around with these models and just scrape the biggest lines off and aim at the tabletop quality of painting. That’s how Graug, captain of the Tassar Brawlers was born!

Red and cream white are the main colors of the corporation, that rise and sponsor the team of this green skinned brutes, and so I applied them to the armor in such a way to make it look more like a sport outfit than a battle frame – and so the colors are divided into certain separate zones, making them uniform, there is a team member number on the back of it and the only thing that really is lacking, is to design a logo for the corporation to apply on the model as a decal (*as I try to experiment a bit and make my own decal sheet*)

No ale to nie wszystko – jak tylko skończyłem babrać się z tym orkiem uznałem, że pora zakasać rękawy I zabrać się ze te starter do Dystopiana, poczynając od największych okrętów. Robimy więc, i o to są wczesne WIP’y dwóch wielkich okrętów dla sił japońskich oraz francuskich…

But that is hardly all – as soon as I finished messing with the orx I decided that it’s time at last to get into painting these starters for Dystopian, beginning with the biggest ships. Working then, and so here is an early WIP’s of the two biggest ships for Japanese and French forces…
